Data centre located less than 30 miles from epicentre of the UK's largest earthquake for 25 years
Smartbunker, the UK's first zero carbon data centre, has been demonstrated as earthquake proof. Measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, the epicentre of the earthquake, which struck in the early hours of 27th February, was less than 30 miles from Smartbunker, a data centre situated in an ex-NATO command bunker in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Management systems at the data centre showed that the operation of its IT systems was completely unaffected by this natural phenomenon.
Kelly Smith, managing director of Smartbunker commented, "Our customers rely on us to protect their data and ensure continuity of IT services, come what may. The facility was designed and constructed to be shock resistant to counter the effects of a nuclear blast. We could barely have been closer to an earthquake whose effects were felt as far away as Amsterdam, yet the operation of the data centre was completely unaffected. We promise all of our customers 100% guaranteed uptime. This event lends that promise its ringing endorsement."
Smartbunker offers managed server hosting with 100% uptime guaranteed, military grade security and minimal environmental impact.
